Paul and Lynn

Last weekend was the official kick-off of my 2010 wedding season, and also my first wedding here in Charlottesville.

It was great spending the day with Paul and Lynn, who had a very causal afternoon wedding on grounds at the University of Virginia’s Colonnade Club.

This is my favorite shot from the day, Lynn and her mom embracing in one last hug before she walks down the isle.

Thank you to Paul and Lynn for having me, and I wish you two all the best in your new lives together!

Ashley

With Amy away in the Bahamas on a scientific adventure, I’ve had some free time on my hands lately and have been itching to get out of the house.

Luckily, a good buddy of mine in town, Joel Codiamat, gave me a ring and asked if I would collaborate with him on a last second shoot.

Joel is a incredibly talented natural light shooter who wanted dramatic lighting for this session with local model Ashley. We talked earlier in the afternoon and decided that he would come up with the concepts and clothing, and I would light the scenes.

After three locations and about an hour and a half of shooting, Joel had what he needed. I jumped in with my camera and a one-light setup and grabbed a couple of frames of Ashley while rain was pouring down. Luckily, Joel had found an absolutely amazing Charlottesville gem of a location at Woolen Mills, which is a small neighborhood on the East side of town that’s home to an old textile mill now being used for moving truck rental. We had a covered loading dock that we used for the last few frames, packed up and made haste before the rain flooded our improvised set.

Sarah and Cesar

Earlier this month, I answered a request from a high school friend who needed some imagery for a project he’s about to kick off.

My friend in question (who’s not pictured here), used to casually write notes about dating on his Facebook profile and before he knew it, long strings of conversation formed. He quickly realized that there’s something to be had here and started the Unbreakable Man Laws blog that is now receiving a significant amount of traffic each month.

He’s branching off with another writer to create a Dating Guide to DC, which is a PDF that they’re hoping will go viral via email.

Pictured above are Sarah and Cesar, who are friends of the Unbreakable Man Laws author. Sarah has casually done some modeling in the past and this was Cesar’s first time in front of the camera. They both did awesome on the streets of DC, and toughed it out through one of the most humid nights we’ve had all year.
